Welcome to Sweet Zen Bakery, where our story is as unique as the flavors we bake into every treat.
Over two decades ago, a dream was planted—the vision of a cozy bakery, a place that felt like home for anyone who walked through its doors. Life, as it often does, took us on a different path initially. Sweet Zen Bakery came to life not with a storefront, but from a modest rented kitchen space, making waves in the wholesale world instead of the retail one we had imagined.
Yet, the heart of Sweet Zen yearned for something more—something it was destined to be. In early 2023, driven by an unwavering passion to fulfill our original vision, we embarked on a journey to find the perfect location. A place that would not just be a bakery, but a Zen Den—a sanctuary of sweetness and serenity for our community.
After meticulous planning and construction, the dream is about to become reality. We are thrilled to announce that soon, we will be opening the doors to our very own Sweet Zen Bakery storefront. Here, old friends and new faces alike can gather to enjoy the peace and pleasure of freshly baked goods made with love.

Amal Kawar
Growing up Lebanese and with a mother known among friends and family globally for her unbelievable natural talent for baking, there was no escaping that same passion for baking that Amal would discover later in high school when she made her first apple pie. Amal turned her love of all things pastry into a professional career as a pastry chef at Basil in Paoli, PA for seven years in the early 2000’s. It was there that the dream of opening her own bakery would be born. Over twenty years later, that dream is finally a reality.
Karen’s passion for baking, and more specifically cake decorating, was sparked at the age of 5 when her godmother, who used to decorate cakes, taught her how to make icing roses. In 2015, she began her professional career in the baking industry then chose to further pursue that passion with a degree in Baking and Pastry from the Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College. Karen joined Sweet Zen Bakery in September 2022 bringing with her valuable experience, skill, and talent with a focus on custom cake decorating.
